10: 11 AM: sitting down to write. Don’t re-read what you’ve already written! That’s death! Ignore it.

10:15 AM: Am I writing too many stage directions?

10:16 AM: I’m getting too meta about this.

10:18 AM: God, I love this duo act I have set up.

10:19 AM: Oh! “Holy Smoke Baby” by the Cadillacs! Fuckin’ awesome song. Wish someone would do fast burlesque to this.

10:19 AM: I am too easily distracted.

10:21 AM: This Pandora mix is too good for my own good.

10:27 AM: short mental break (as though I wasn’t taking several) to check NaPlWriMo forums. Everyone seems to think this script is a great idea! And by “everyone” I mean 3 people. Still, good start.

10:28 AM: LAY OFF THE STAGE DIRECTIONS

10:31 AM: Elvis was such a dirty bastard. AH. GET BACK TO WORK.

10:37 AM: Oh damn, this monologue is good.

10:43 AM: Is this getting too ranty? I think my personal gender politics might be getting too involved.

… fuck it. Edit later.

SOUP NOW.

11:15 AM: bowl of potato soup and an episode of Good Eats later, and I am back in the game! Damn, this section is getting *ranty*

11:20 AM: That was a pretty good scene.

ACK. JUDGE LATER, WRITE NOW.

11:28 AM: I’m torn. Should I aim for more subtle? “SHINE” had some really stereotypical, broad-stroke-type characters.

11:29 AM: Fuck it. It’s a musical, musicals are not known for their subtlety.

11:42 AM: I am having such a hard time *not* rereading everything I’ve just written. I really hope it doesn’t suck.

11:43 AM: I think I might have hit a bad point. I had a rough idea of how I wanted scenes to go, but now I’m running out of scene ideas. And it seems too early to throw in the love scene.

12:24 PM: Phew. Okay, 14.5 pages written, which makes up for not writing yesterday. I really hope I haven’t blown my wad and hit the mid-point in the script already, but it’s starting to feel that way. Some more script plotting is in order, I think.

  1. OMG! Nicol – I’m going through the same exact thing, crazy! I think I’m going to focus on writing ten pages tonight, myself. I’m so proud of you for doing this. Keep it up, girl! You’ll do it! I know you will! xoxo -Brian

  2. It was pretty surprisingly easy to get the 10 pages out once I sat down and did it. 5 pages felt like nothing the first day. On the other hand, what I’m having a problem with is figuring out how to stretch the plot into 75 pages. But, overall, it’s good for me, and I’m really excited about finishing it!

Can’t wait to read your script, babe!
