An antidote to the derp of the last post! Yay!
First, and most importantly, there’s a new writer’s group forming at Seattle Rep. They are specifically Northwest playwrights, too. This is a very exciting development from a large theatre company, although they have a pretty toned-down expectation of the group.
Participants in the group will receive a modest stipend from the theatre, attend biweekly meetings, utilize Seattle Rep resources, receive complimentary tickets and access to Seattle Rep productions, and present up to one staged reading of a full-length play each year of the program.
A writer’s group of local playwrights is fantastic. I’m sure the Rep wants to see how successful this will be with the public, although I’d caution them that this is definitely a little insular. It sounds like it’s mainly a support group for playwrights who are frankly already successful. But, I look forward to their first series of staged readings, and I hope there’s enough interest that the Rep, and other local theatres, will choose to fully-produce more local plays. Not just from this lucky and talented group, of course, but from all kinds of playwrights.

Speaking of playwrights, it’s time for National Playwrighting Month, which coincides of course with National Novel Writing Month. I’ve attempted both before, but seem cursed with insane busy-ness in November. So I wish all the playwrights and novelists amazing genius!
